Masticating Juicer
Single Gear Juicers and Twin Gear Juicers
The single-auger juicer shreds, grinds or crushes the food and pushes it with a rotating gear through a strainer to separate the pulp from the juice. Juice from masticating juicers is rich, colorful and full of flavor with higher vitamin, enzyme and mineral content. The end product is usually denser, with more pulp and contains more fibers than juice gained from a centrifugal juicer. Some of these auger juicer machines provide a second strainer that takes much of this out. As you shop for masticating juicers today, if you have a question about our single gear juicers, contact us!
According to most juicer experts masticating juicers, also known as single-gear juicers or auger juicers yield better quality vegetable and fruit juices than centrifugal juicers do.
The main difference between masticating juicers and centrifugal juicers is that the masticating juicers work at a slower speed, generating less heat during the juicing process. The slow motion of the auger effectively breaks down the fibers and cell walls of vegetables and fruits, while protecting their nutrient content. Many masticating juicers can juice wheat grass and other leafy greens. Some masticating juicers can juice vegetables, fruits, leafy greens including wheat grass as well as citrus fruits. Many auger juicers don’t handle fruits well. If you want to juice fruits with a single-gear juicer, the Champion juicer is the best option. The Champion juicer manufacturer has developed an attachment that will juice the greens and wheatgrass, but this juicer won't do that without the attachment.
Cutting up the produce into smaller pieces before juicing is recommended to get the best results with this type of juicer. Masticating juicers yield more juice with less foam from the same amount of produce than a centrifugal machine. Pulp from an auger juicer is often drier than pulp from a centrifugal juicer.
The single-gear juicer operates quietly compared to centrifugal machines which can be very noisy. With good masticating juicers you'll have a versatile kitchen appliance: a complete food processor with which you can grind nuts to make nut butters, mill seeds, make baby food and delicious fruit ice cream. The auger juicer can also make pasta and bread sticks.
Some of our juicers have twin gears. They are also masticating and generally do a good job of juicing fruits and vegetables and greens. The gears mesh together to extract the juice from the food.
